2011 Year In Review

Since my memory is so horribly bad, I thought I would steal my SIL's idea to blog a year in review post. Although our year wasn't quite as thrilling as Kev and Becky's a lot still went on around here.

I know I'm leaving out a ton of stuff that I'm sure was quite hilarious, so I'm going to have to rely on Toby, Brian, and Scout reading this to tell me what I've left out!

We started the year with Landry acting silly with Rylie in her crib.

We had a lot of snow in February, Landry decided she loved it this year......

We had a baby shower for Shannon to celebrate the long awaited arrival of my niece and nephew!

We welcomed baby CeCe and Woody to our ever growing extended family. We were so thrilled for Shannon and Marcus! (which I have no electronic pictures of because they are on my missing camera card - ugh)

We had our first big family vacation where Terra and the twins joined us. We spent a week in beautiful Fort Morgan, AL and fell in love. We are counting down the days until we go again this year. So many pictures, no way I could post them all. We drove into Pensacola to see the Blue Angels. I had to drag everyone whining and complaining and they ended up loving it and can't wait to see them perform again.

Hours and hours on the beach we played and played. Rylie got another tooth, Terra got her exercise pushing the jogging stroller on the beach, and they boys got some fun quality time WITHOUT electronics with the parents! The twins marked there territory by peeing all over the floor at Tacky Jack's (I'm sure it wasn't the first time it was peed on however). I'm sure there are lots of funny stories, but I have already forgotten them. Terra can remind me and I can add them!

We celebrated Rylie's 1st birthday with family and close friends.

We took the girls on a whim to Disneyland for the weekend in October. Hope they remember it as I've lost the camera card, so we have NO pictures from the trip (Lord, I pray we find the card)!

Landry had her first dance recital dancing to Silent Night. It was the most precious thing and Rylie rocked out to all the music of the acts. It was hilarious!

Christmas was strange this year as it was just me, Brian, and the girls. The rest of the family was in Houston and the boys didn't come home until the 28th. Regardless, the girls loved it!

We ended the year celebrating Landry's 4th birthday, I can't believe how grown up she is now!

Landry's 4th birthday

Four years ago today, I delivered our little miracle Landry Kate. I still remember running outside while the boys were playing basketball to whisper in Brian's ear I was pregnant. 36 weeks later little Landry decided to make her arrival on New Year's Eve. Never in a million years did I have any idea the love I could feel for a little girl and my willingness to suck it up and buy princess and pink stuff!

Let's not forget to mention the trip to the Disney Store with daddy where he got her a Cinderella gown and slippers, Prince Phillip, Prince Eric, and a Tangled night gown to go with the stuff she had already got: Snow White night light, a Rapunzel dress, Princess Tiana, Cinderella, and a princess book to help her learn to write!

Christmas 2011

Well, we survived round one of Christmas 2011. It was really weird and sad it being just the 4 of us this year. The boys won't be here until the 28th and the parents went to Houston for Christmas this year since Terra can't travel (she's the one that always causes trouble!) I couldn't make the drive to Houston because of my surgery, so it was a catch 22 :-(

We went to Christmas Eve service at church and both the girls loved all the lights
and Landry loves the candle lighting part. She stood up on the pew and waived her candle around like she was at Woodstock. She was very disappointed when it was over and wanted to stay for the next service so she could do it again.

We went home got in our jammies and read the Christmas Story and then Twas the Night Before Christmas. Then we locked Landry in her room. Yep locked, tied her door shut with a rope. Yep, we are awful parents, but if I get kicked in the head one more time, it may cause me to commit a felony and Santa couldn't come either.

She didn't seem to mind though. She told us that was the only way she would stay in her room and she knew if she didn't Santa wouldn't visit.

Landry woke up and I think she forgot all about Santa and Christmas. She came in our room asking to watch Bubble Guppies, go figure. She finally realized Santa had come when we finally went downstairs and then she couldn't get things opened fast enough. She didn't settle down until she found the ONE thing she had wanted all year, a Butterfly Barbie!

So then while the entire family was at Shannon's eating yummy Christmas dinner we had Texas Trash :-)

We ended the day going to see Grandma Morgan and taking her some Christmas stew. We got to see my uncle and aunt, too that I haven't seen in forever. Rylie ate enough German Chocolate cake for the entire German Army!

We had a good Christmas, but I'm ready for my boys to be home and the parents to be here, so we can have Christmas round 2!

Landry's First Dance Recital - Silent Night

Here is Landry in her first recital. She froze for a few seconds, but jumped back in - whew! i was surprised as she did great at rehearsal and was so excited to dance on the big black stage again! She did great in her 90 seconds of fame!!!

Landry's 1st Dance Class

Landry had her first dance class today. It's a combo ballet and tap class. She was having a lot of fun, but about 30 minutes into the 45 minute class she announced she was tired and just quit. She stood there like a statue for about 5 minutes, then finally joined in again when they started dancing to "Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed" and "If You're Happy and You Know It"

She's very excited to go back next week!

I spent the weekend at Shannon and Marcus' house visiting with my new niece Cece and nephew Woody. i was even nice enough to let them have a well deserved date night. I stopped off to see Terra and the girls on my way there and back. I can't believe how big Harper and Morgan have gotten.

Easter 2011

We spent Easter weekend at home this year. It started with a mad dash to the mall on Friday night to get Rylie's 1st easter bunny picture, a trip to see great-grandma on Saturday, and finally an egg hunt after church on Sunday to wrap up the weekend.

Snow, snow, and too much snow!

Well, we've had a lot of snow here in the past couple of weeks. Schools were even closed for a record 5 days. Landry actually enjoyed the snow this year. Here are a few pictures of her in the snow then snuggling with Rylie to get toasty warm!

I had Rylie's 6 months pictures taken this morning, so I'll have soon. Just like her sister at that age, she wasn't very cooperative so they aren't great. She has her 6 month check-up on Wednesday, and I'll post her stats. She's almost sitting up by herself and attempting to crawl. She's eating a ton. I have yet to find something she doesn't like, even prunes! She's going to start on 2nd foods this week and the stage1 tubs aren't filling her up! If her darn tooth would just pop in, she'd be a much happier baby!

Before Landry's birthday party today, Santa Claus paid a visit to our neighborhood. It was SO nice to walk right up to Santa have a good conversation and not have to wait in line! Landry wasn't scared this year, sat on his lap, but didn't have much to say :-)

On 12/11/10, we got to go with Dad to his company Christmas party at the Gaylord Texan. Quad treated us to ICE - A Charlie Brown's Christmas and then lunch! It was a blast. It was 9 degrees and Rylie slept on Brian's shoulder the whole time and never moved. It was SOOOOOOOOO cold! We were lucky to have have boys with us, too!

On December 4th I took Landry and Rylie to their first parade. It was the McKinney Christmas Lights parade. Landry loved it screaming Merry Christmas to anyone who walked by. Rylie just hung out in Toby's lap people watching.

The Friday after Thanksgiving we took Landry and her cousin Quinn to see Disney Princess Wishes on Ice. They had a blast. It was also Landry's first sleepover at the house!

Friday night, 12/3, Rylie belly laughed over and over again while I was holding her at the front door. I was talking to our neighbor and Scout was making faces at her. After 27 hours of labor baby Rylie has finally arrived!

Here are some pictures. She had her first doctor appointment today. Although, they measured her at 20.5 inches at the hospital, she's actually only 19 inches, they checked 3 times so here are her official stats:

Since I'm like my friend Tara and horrible with actual baby books, I figured I would document here so we would remember when we're old and gray since all kids have their own "story" Rylie tried to make her appearance in the world this past Thursday. I ended up at Baylor with contractions about 2 minutes apart. My doctor is on vacation, so Dr. Backup decided to stop my labor even though Dr. McIntire and Dr. Zaretsky had both agreed if after 34 weeks they would just let it happen. Therefore, I spent the night in the hospital under observation.

Dr. Z came and gave me a sonogram yesterday at the hospital because Dr. Backup refused to release me without it. He says Rylie looks great and that she's up to about 6 lbs 3 oz and he told Dr. Backup not to stop my labor if it starts again. What does she do, sends me home on bedrest - ARGH!

OK, I had to document this because it was so funny. This morning we were eating breakfast and I told Toby to finish his biscuit and eggs because he had gone back for seconds. Brian says don't make him eat it if he's full......First Scout looks at him and says, "who are you and what have you done with my dad?" Brian responds, "It's okay if he doesn't eat eat. It's not like there aren't starving children in China that didn't eat this morning that would want it." Scout's up in the kitchen mumbles to his dad, "Since when do you care?"

I about fell out of my chair laughing, so did Toby. When Brian ask him what he meant, if he meant cared about the kids in China or just cared, Scout matter of fact says "About anything....." and just walked off.

What a way to start the day :-) It's funny and sad all at the same time.

Terra's Baby Shower

Shannon and I threw Terra a baby shower this past Saturday at Bentwater Yacht Club there where she lives. It turned out really nice and we had a lot of fun. The cake was YUMMY!!! It was also a fun weekend just hanging out with the sisters!!

Galveston Beach - Father's Day 2010

Last, but not least we spent Saturday and Sunday on the beach in Galveston, although we didn't get the camera out until Sunday. Shannon and Marcus went with us that day. It was a great day. Landry loves the beach, Toby was stung on the leg by a jellyfish, Scout cut his hand on some coral or a sea urchin (not sure) and a crazy lady tried to grab Landry! FUN TIMES!

Rangers @ Astros - 6/18/2010

On Friday, after a great week ALONE in Fort Lauderdale, we collected the kids from Aunt Terra and ventured to Aunt Shannon's and Uncle Marcus' for our weekend in Galveston. I was "so excited" to learn the Rangers were playing in Houston that night. Luckily, I got out of it and sent Marcus in my place with Brian and the boys.

They had a great time (Rangers won) and there were fireworks after the game. They even ended up with great seats after Toby decided to fun in flip flops and fall down the stairs. Of course, they were thinking lawsuit so they moved them to some great seats. Too bad it wasn't until the 8th inning!

On Wednesday before the game we made the drive to Key West. We ended at Mile 0 and started our trip back to Fort Lauderdale at Mile 0. You can't go any further south in the Continental U.S.

After all these years of being "mom" I am finally an aunt! Chris and Sarah welcomed their first baby boy, Jonathan Elliott, into the world this morning at 3:53am after 24 hours of labor (without drugs, God bless her!) I am so happy for them and can't wait to meet my first nephew!

It was a very early and quick last day to try to get in the last of the things we wanted to do. We accomplished 3 of the 4

First - Go to Harvard to the Harvard Museum of Natural History - CHECK (very pretty there)

Second - Boston Museum of Art - (flew threw it)

Third - Hop the subway back to the North End to eat at a YUMMY Italian Restaurant - CHECK

Fourth - Museum of Science - didn't make it, ran out of time

THE END - Fly home to Dallas FIRST CLASS - Awe

Boston - Day Three

Let me start by saying, by the middle of day two our feet were dying. By the time we woke up for day three, I thought we both were going to need wheel chairs. Blisters, joints aching, can't move...ARGH

We started our third day in Boston with a tour of the Samuel Adams Brewery. Since I don't drink beer, Brian was officially tipsy drunk by 10:45 in the morning. He drank his samples and mine....man they gave us a lot of free beer. After the tour, he hopped on the subway and headed to the New England Aquarium, the North End to the YUMMY YUMMY YUMMY Italian Bakeries, and then took a Duck Tour.

What is a Duck Tour you ask? It's a land/water tour of Boston in old WWII armoured cars that turn in to boats. It's the things they raided the beaches of Normandy with.

After the tour we ate dinner at the Atlantic Fish Company. This was the dinner Brian was waiting for. He had some type of Lobster....YUCK!! Me, chicken Cesar Salad. I must say though, it was the best salad I've ever had, the homemade dressing was awesome.

Boston - Day Two - Salem, MA

We spent Friday in Salem....no we did not do any of the witch museum tours so I could study my ancestry........The only tour we took was of the HOUSE OF SEVEN GABLES which inspired the novel by Nathaniel Hawthorne. The rest are pictures of outside the museums, The Memorial to the Salem Witch Trials, the cemetery, the bay, etc.

Mom asked Brian the night before we left why we had to go all the way to MA to learn about witches when there was one so close to home.......HA HA HA HA, very funny.....

We headed back in to Boston for the night and spent the evening at The Faneuil Hall Marketplace where Brian ate seafood at McCormick & Schmick's. He loved it. I had chicken (I know you are all shocked).

Landry's Last Day at Ms. Vera's

Well, Landry's last day at Ms. Vera's house was Friday. Monday she starts preschool at Heritage. I know it's going to be a huge adjustment for her, but I know it will be good for her. Brian said there was no way he was taking her on the first day because of her crying, but he has to on

Tuesday because I have to fly to Austin for work!

Landry and Her Big Girl Bed!!

We got Landry a toddler bed today at Kid-to-Kid. It was a steal!! Brian was worried she would get up and end up sleeping on the floor. She actually did really well. She laid right down and I stayed with her for a bit. When I left she did get up and cry and the door for just a minute, but went right back to bed. That was 2 hours ago!!! Way to go Landry in your first night in your new bed!!!

I just snuck in there and took this picture. It was almost disaster though, we've got to WD40 her door!!

So Terra bought Landry this cute pale yellow halter top that has flamingos on it. I love to put it on her, but she keeps pulling down so her boobies show, but these pictures were too cute not to post!

Here is a picture of Toby and Landry with Grandma and Papa, too. We went to visit them on Sunday. Pops isn't doing so well, please keep him in your prayers.

Landry's Swimming Lessons

Today was Landry and Katelin's 3rd swimming lesson. Landry missed last week because of pink eye and a ruptured ear drum, but she was back with a splash today!

Katelin was really happy being in the water today. She wasn't so sure that first visit. But Landry was quite the cranky pot today, but she eased up a bit. If you are wondering what that is on Landry's head, it's her EarBandit. It's suppose to keep the water out of her ears although I spent most of the time pulling it back over her ears :-)

Next week is their last lesson and they are going to get to go outside in the kiddie pool area. That should be fun!

So All the Kids are Finally Home

Toby has made it back from Branson with his dad and the fam and Scout is here for the rest of the summer (almost). Since we are all back together, I decided the boys would think it was really cool to call and talk to Kevin and Becky in China! They couldn't believe we could call them through the internet and cell phone. Toby talk Kev's ear off about video games, he talked so long the phone hung up on him!

We called back so Scout could talk to them. He talked to Becky for a while about the school project he did on China and how we aren't going on a family vacation this year :-(

Then said a quick hi to Kev and talked about his summer.

Kev and I caught up quickly and had a conversation about the economy and the health care problem. He said everywhere he goes people ask him about the US economy. he said they are way more concerned about it than he is!

It was great talking to them, we miss them!!

4th of July 2009

We went to Lake Lewisville as always to watch fireworks from the boat again this year. We went with Chris, Trish, Katelin and Trish's parents. Toby was with us, too. He was so excited to be back out on the lake again. We didn't realize how much we missed it until this summer when we didn't have a boat to take out at our leisure!!

Thankfully, Chris has a few boats lying around (after all he does own his own boat dealership!!)

We met at the boat ramp and headed across the late to eat at Charlies. Then headed out to pick a spot too watch. Landry wasn't too thrilled with the fireworks. She cried for a bit then she actually fell asleep on the steering wheel of the boat. It was hilarious!! This is what I call asleep at the wheel!!

Here is the picture of them last 4th of July (6 months and 2 months) at Charlie's - OH what a difference a year makes. Everyone thought Landry was a boy last year. Hopefully the MISS AMERICA shirt and skirt this year mad it a little clearer!!

Toby and His Advanced Brown Belt

Toby had belt testing this past Saturday. He is now an advanced brown belt. He also went to sparring camp last week. He's going to start competing in tournaments, too! Way to go Toby. This time next year he should be close to his Black Belt!!

Landry got her a little karate action, too, while they were preparing the belts to hand out!

He placed 2nd in forms and 3rd in sparring!

Scarborough Faire

We took the kids to Scarborough Faire today. It was a lot of fun, they didn't want to leave. We are thinking of getting season passes next year! Toby even got pulled up on stage by the juggler.

Landry Survived Her First Tornado

It might have been Scout's and Toby's, too.....not sure. If not, it was definitely the first and hopefully only one they will ever be in the middle of, literally. We were driving home yesterday and we were about 1 hour West of Abilene. We drove through a horrible rain storm and we were edging through the back end. I looked over to my right and out of nowhere there was a funnel cloud on the ground, I freaked out as I was driving the darn suburban, which I hate driving anyway. Brian had his eyes glued on the big rig that was on the other side of the highway that was jack knifed and it's trailer almost on its side headed straight for us.

We sat in park for a minute, then I put it in reverse and drove backwards down the highway. We sat there for a minute, then other cars started driving through on the other side so I punched it and we drove straight through the funnel cloud, it was crazy, debris flying everywhere. Then Brian looked out the window an

d there was another HUGE funnel cloud to our right. We didn't stick around to see it although, people were stopped outside of their trucks watching it....crazy West Texas people!!!!

Anyway, the boys and Brian all turned to watch it's path as I drove away. I must say, it scared the you know what out of me. I was saying Psal

m 23 the entire time, I truly thought we might die.

Nana and Grandpa got Landry and singing sheep bunny for Easter. It sings hop, hop, hop, over and over to the turn of Here Comes Peter Cottontail. For Christmas Ms. Vera got Landry a robotic puppy. Landry's new game is to sit on the floor and force the puppy to listen to the Hop Hop song over, and over, and over, and over......you get the idea :-)

She loves riding the rocking horse her Great Aunt Susie and Uncle Marshall got her for Christmas, too!!

Landry's 15 month stats

OK, for all of us that thought her old pediatrician couldn't measure right, We were ALL CORRECT. Landry saw her new doctor for her 15 month old check-up today.

Height - 30.5 inches - 23rd percentile (yes this is more realistic, Dr. Stupid had her at 31 3/4 at 12 months)

Weight - still 20.2 lbs - 2nd percentile

On another note, Landry had her first CT scan last night because she took a huge spill yesterday afternoon. I'm sure it is the first of many considering she is fearless and jumps off things all the time.

Easter Weekend 2009

We started this Easter weekend with a trip to Grandma & Papa's on Saturday. Landry was so sweet, so got right up in Papa's lap and almost fell asleep there. She was so content. It drives Grandma crazy that Landry won't have anything to do with her. We keep telling her that Landry is going through the stranger phase, but she still gets her feelings hurt.

After that stop, we ventured down to Waco to go to the zoo with Terra and Matt. We had a lot of fun. It was Landry's first visit to the zoo. She seemed to like it. She even let Terra carry her and point out the animals. Brian got to really try out his new lens for the camera. Check out the tongue on this giraffe!!

After that we went to grab a bite to eat and have some milkshakes for desert. Scout got a butterscotch one and Landry apparently loved it. She sucked so hard we had to pry the straw out of her mouth.

Easter Sunday, itself, was fairly uneventful. We didn't attempt church since Landry is still officially kicked out of the church nursery and I've caught a nasty cold I can't seem to shake. We got up and had a nice breakfast. Later in the day, we hunted eggs. Overall, a nice relaxing day.

Brian always wanted a little boy named Atticus............

Well, today he got his wish..................................

Coonhound!!!

We rescued him from the SPCA today. Some idiot bought him from a breeder, then surrendered him to the SPCA because he's too big!! People should really research before they buy a pet.....ARGH!!!! His name was Spots, but we changed it because that's stupid and this is the only way Brian will ever get his Atticus. He'll grow to 70-80 lbs and will be about the size of Reagan, just a tad smaller. It's Brian's fault, he saw him on Channel 8 yesterday when he was home sick from work.

Landry's Melt Down

So Landry had a total melt down late Sunday afternoon. The uncontrollable screaming at the top of her lungs.....the ear piercing kind. Wasn't hungry, wasn't thirsty, wasn't tired, we had no idea what her problem was.

What was it you ask..........Landry wanted her blanket! Not only to hold it, but to apparently wear it around the house on her head while sucking her thumb (also a new development---ARGH)....

So T.O. is gone from the Cowboys, but Landry will eat the popcorn in his place! Brian gave her a piece yesterday and she loved it!

She was trying to stick her head into the bag to get more. Popcorn, popcorn in each hand!
