Landry's First Boat Ride - Memorial Day Weekend at Matt & Terra's

So this past Memorial Day weekend we packed up the Chevy and took a big 28' Chaparral down to Terra and Matt's house for the weekend. We got there on Saturday evening and were out on the water before lunch time on Sunday. But before we headed out TB had to get Landry's picture in her swim suit along with her two freaky dogs in their life jackets. Yes, her dogs have life jackets.

Their friends Ruben, Jen, and their kids Aiden and Nia spent the morning out on the lake tubing and swimming with us. Later that afternoon we picked up Shane and his family. In total we were out on the lake for over 8 hours. We had a great time.

Landry had a blast on the boat. She loved the wind blowing in her face and wanted to stand up most of the time to see what was going on. She watched everyone swim and take turns on the tube totally fascinated. We put her in the water, but she didn't like it much. I think it was too cold.

Around 7:30 that evening we docked at the yacht club and listened to some jazz music and had a picnic dinner. I put Landry in the pool and she loved it. We would've stayed in longer but she started shivering.

In the meantime, Toby and Aiden had become such quick friends that Toby ended up spending the night at his house!

Sunday morning Brian and Matt went down to the marina to clean out the boat. This turned in to a "Let's see how fast this boat will go" session. Matt called TB at the house and told her to come down to the docks. I was stuck at the house because the baby was taking a nap. They all come waundering in the door 2 hours later with huge smiles plastered on their faces. Those 3 were in boat heaven.

Landry was dressed in her Memorial Day wear when they got home so we took a few pics. We ended up grilling for lunch and then we headed home. This is were the story goes downhill.

About 45 miles south of Corsicana we have a blow out on the boat trailer. Brian putts us into a rest area and we call OnStar for help. Of course they couldn't locate our vehicle because hauling that boat was sucking all the life out of the Suburban so we had no radio, CD, ipod, DVD, on OnStar services. They were all dead. They finally found our location and sent a tow truck to help change the tire because of all things that stupid SUV didn't come with a jack.

After waiting a little over an hour they finally get there to change the tire. They tell Brian we need to watch the tires on the right side of the trailer because they look a bit iffy. We're not on the road for 15 minutes and another sticking tire blows. We're stuck, we put down the road and end up in a Jack in the Box parking lot. We're calling everyone, TB, dad, anyone that will answer the phone to help us locate a store with tires, a tow truck service, anything.

Of course, it being after 8pm on Memorial Day NO ONE was open. We end up having to leave the boat at the Jack In The Box and finally make it home. Our 3.5 hour road trip turned into an over 8 drive from hell. No radio, the baby crying, Brian worrying about leaving a $50,000 boat in "Podunkville" at Jack in the Crack.......use your imagination on how it went.

Needless to say, we are all home safe now, although Brian is heading back as I type to change 2 tires on the boat trailer and haul the darn thing home. I'm thinking after this disaster it will be a long, long time before I see another boat being brought home!!

Enjoy the pics!

Sounds like a weekend of fun, at least until the drive home. I'm sorry you guys had to go through all that, especially with Landry along.

I still can't believe all the trouble you had getting home. Thanks again for coming. We had a great time! We'll have to do it again minus the two blowouts.
